What is TEARS?
TEARS enjoys an excellent working relationship with most Alabama law enforcement agencies, humane societies and other rescue organizations. We are actively seeking a means of establishing a facility where rescued and cruelly treated animals can be housed through their rehabilitation and until they can be placed in a permanent loving home or released back into the wild. Our ideal home will include acreage to allow animals to be kept in large group yards where they can exercise and play with others of their kind while awaiting adoption. When achieved, it will be one of the first of its kind in the Southeast and a pioneer in the fields of rehabilitation and adoption. Currently, TEARS is forced to euthanize animals when one of only three circumstances exist: 1) the animal's injuries are such that euthanasia is the only humane solution; 2) when funding is not available to provide for veterinary services; and 3) when no room is available to house the animal until it is recovered and adopted. It is our goal to eliminate items two and three, therefore putting animals to death only when medically necessary. We are especially proud of our program for placing "senior" animals. TEARS' cruelty personnel have attended cruelty investigation classes and rescue procedure seminars. Our director has over 30 years experience in both fields and in veterinary medicine. We actively pursue continuing education for our humane officers. We believe that education of today's youth is the single most effective weapon toward reduction of cruelty to animals, violence toward other people, and pet overpopulation. We are not a shelter or humane society. Our animals stay at TEARSTOWN and can be seen by appointment once you have been approved for adoption. TEARS was formed for injury rescue and cruelty cases. We are not able to take in strays or owned animals. If you have a stray in your area please contact your local animal control. If you have a pet you no longer want, please contact your local humane society. TEARS is open 24/hrs a day and 7 days a week to receive injury and cruelty reports. For any other questions please call during normal business hours or email us. Thank you!!
