Examples of Our Work

CHAZ

Here is our latest example of why we require a fenced in yard for all dog adoptions. Perhaps if Chaz had been confined to the safety of a fence, he would not have suffered the pain he endured. Chaz's owner "let him outside" one day, as she had many other times, expecting him to stay close to the house and be safe. On this particular day, a pack of large and very mean dogs happened to also be outside. They attacked this sweet, 12 week old puppy, tearing into him viciously. The owner heard her puppy's cries and rushed out to help him. She successfully ran the bigger dogs off and took Chaz home.

But that is where the care stopped. Chaz was never taken to the vet. The wounds were never cleaned, he was never given any antibiotics to prevent infection, nor any pain reliever for what surely hurt tremendously. As the days went on, Chaz got sicker and sicker and weaker and weaker. After a week of neglect, Chaz's owner contacted TEARS for help. Immediately we went and got him. The owner surrendered him to our care and soon Chaz was at the emergency vet hooked up to IV solutions and receiving a strong dose of antibiotics. He was barely alive.

The vet who examined him found that the muscles in his neck had been shredded. A result of being brutally attacked and shook like a rag doll. When we think of the needless pain and suffering he went through that week after the attack; the feeling of weakness that eventually overcame him - we just ache.

Chaz is still at the animal hospital where he is receiving all he needs to get well. We have been advised that he is not out of the woods yet, so please keep Chaz in your prayers.

When he is able to be released, he may require a foster home to continue to monitor him & finish up any anti-biotics. We would love to have that foster home lined up. If you would like to welcome this sweet puppy into your home - please email or call us today!

Update 3/3/07 - Chaz is home from the hospital. As you can see he is doing much better. His wounds are stitched up and the stitches will be removed soon, then he will be ready for his forever home. He is quite a dog uh? Can you tell he is feeling better? Come back and see his progress.
