You are WHERE??????????

Received a call from a lady who says a dog has wandered into her yard that has his foot
sliced off and it is still dangling – She could find no-one to help her with this poor dog.
While she is talking we are trying to think who we could call to do a rescue on Sunday morning.. When I ask for her address, she gave me the street address and we asked for the city she replied, MOBILE. –we sat down first, then asked her if she knew we were in Birmingham?- Yes, but I couldn’t find anyone else to help me on Sunday. She had called the local emergency clinic and they told her no credit and she had no money. We then asked if she was able to drive the dog to the Emergency Clinic and she agreed.
We then called the emergency clinic and authorized our debit card to be used.
When the dog arrived they immediately evaluated, stabilized and started treatment.
The dog’s foot was sliced and the pad of the foot severely damaged.
On Monday we started searching for other rescue groups in the area and by Tuesday we
Had found LAUREN’S ZOO and verified that it was a reputable rescue establishment.
When we contacted  Lauren she agreed to help us. She took the dog into Lauren’s Zoo and will find a forever home for it.
Another rescue done via phone and internet with the cooperation of many people.

Thanks to Rehm Animal Clinic in Mobile
Thanks to Lauren Steinhauer At Lauren’s Zoo, in Mobile, AL
Thanks to Ms Stringfellow who took the time to call us and help the poor precious dog.

Update from Lauren’s Zoo Website

Trap is an approximately 1.5 year old Border Collie (?) mix that came to Lauren's Zoo with a horrific injury to her left front paw. The vets think that the damage is consistent with what a metal animal 'leg-hold' trap would cause. She was missing an entire toe and a portion of another toe along with a huge chunk of the main 'weight bearing' pad on the bottom of her foot. Because poor Trap had been getting around without using her leg for quite some time, the decision was made to amputate in order to give little Trap a good quality of life without objecting her to needless multiple surgeries to fix a leg that she would likely never be able to use normally again. Trap is a 'super trooper' and took her surgery in stride. She is already getting around like she had always been tri-pedal, and she seems to even enjoy not having to worry about her injured foot. She is a very sweet dog with a winning personality and is very deserving of a family to call her own. Trap is unfortunately a very slight heartworm positive, but because of her age and otherwise very healthy status, she qualifies for an alternative treatment that doesn't require the stress of the usual heartworm treatments. We think Trap has been through enough trauma as of recent. Please e-mail for an application or call with any questions about our Trap.

Can't adopt? PLEASE donate. Vet care is not free or cheap. Trap's amputation surgery cost $250, and we do DESPERATELY need donations to help with her expenses. Even $1 can make a difference! The lives of innocent pets rely on support from the community.
Not comfortable donating on-line...donations in the form of checks can be made out and mailed to Eight Mile Animal Clinic, 2940 Saint Stephens Rd., Eight Mile,AL 36612. Please mark all checks 'Lauren's Zoo Fund' in the memo line
