Happy Tails

Bo

Well...here's Bo (formerly Vance). Isn't he growing up to be such a handsome fellow. He is actually growing faster than I can keep up with. He went from weighing 28 lbs in Dec at his first Vet's visit to weighing in at 50 lbs 2 ozs last week. I admit it hasn't always been easy, especially with my other dogs not ready for me to bring another one into our home but looking at that face and all the entertainment he provides on a daily basis has well been worth the effort. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't even think twice about it. I never have a shortage of 'puppy kisses' with him around. If everyone could experience the love of a "rescue" dog, this ole world would be such a better place..........

God Bless

Just an update on Nikki since it's been a little while since we spoke. She continues to have the life of a princess and of course, she's very spoiled. Here's a few new pictures with her favorite ball. As you can see from the marks, she loves to play soccer with me. Anyway, I'll keep in touch as time goes on so you know how important she is in my life. Take care.

We adopted Cody last year and just wanted to let you know that he is doing great!  He quickly became a member of our family and now we're not even sure how we ever got along without him.  He loves to go for walks and play with his toys.  He is such a faithful companion and loves to be wherever we are.  We did find out that Cody has a heart murmur and enlarged heart.  We just went back to the Vet. Cardiologist for his 9 month checkup and found out that the medicine he was taking was working so well that we were able to reduce his dose by half.  Thank you for the work that you do.  We love Cody!

Bandit and I are doing great together!  I took him to Dr. Fuller last week and he got RAVE reviews from him.  He is doing great!  He weighed 10 pounds.  Yep...he is growing and our love for each other is growing as well.  He is the talk of my community!  He loves everyone.  He got the remainder of his shots along with his rabies shot and the little fellow just sat there and wiggled his tail the whole time.  Then, after the doctor was through with him, he walked over to the doctor and laid down on his feet.   He got treats for that one!
He is a very smart dog and is trying hard to manipulate me.  Potty training is getting better but I have him on a feeding schedule that helps regulate that well.  We have lots of time together and he just will not leave my sight.   He is such a people dog and I knew it when I met him.
He loves the camera and getting his picture taken.   He is so happy and SPOILED ROTTEN!
See you soon and thanks for bringing me and Bandit together!

We adopted Quibble in Aug 07. We waited eagerly for almost a week to pick him up,  while he was neutered,  and after referring to him as Quibble for the entire time.... well, nothing else ever quite fit. So Quibble it is! And we love him so much!!!! He is his mommy's baby. The rest of the family love him, but he's my little buddy.  He gets along well with our cat... Midnight. He knows his boundaries, as she has set them well, but takes sudden spells to happily chase her around (he just knows not to actually "catch" her).  He even gets along with our two big dogs (Lab & Husky) who are in the yard. He plays and jumps on them just like he's one of them. They seem to think he's funny. I think I've even heard them laughing when Quibble came outside sporting one of his many coats or sweaters. He doesn't know they are laughing though, because he thinks he's quite dapper in his attire. :-) Since his adoption, Quibble has made a trip to the beach, gone fishing, crabbing, camping, gone on many road trips, enjoyed visits to the "grandparents", celebrated his birthday and enjoyed his first real Christmas. Thank you so much for bringing us together and for all you do for animals of all kinds.

Elvis
Elvis

We wanted to give you an update on our sweet boy, Elvis, that we adopted in October of 2007. When we adopted Elvis from TEARS, he had been living there for almost two years. On the day that we adopted him, we were very excited about making him a part of our family. He was a little bit nervous at first, but he quickly warmed up to all of the family. We have never seen a dog that was so grateful to have a bed to sleep in and someone to play with. Thank you so much for all that you do for these animals!

I know you receive so many happy stories of adoptions from TEARS. I am coming up on three years (Feb 7) of adopting Tallula (then Clover) and just had to share this picture. She loves to go to the beach and knows the words “boat ride” just as well as she knows “treats.” This is Lula on the boat this past summer with a recent haircut. You all do amazing work and have given so many families sweet pets to be thankful for!

Nadia or "Miss Nadia Belle" blessed our home in February 02 after being rescued by you from an abandoned grocery store building. She was 8 months old, underweight at 6 lbs and projected to always be small. I am thrilled to report that my "fuzzyone" is 14 lbs, gorgeous and a pleasure to be around! She's an overly affectionate kitty and blended well with a newer family addition in March 02 - 4 wk old kitten stray now known as wild "Sassy Pants". Nadia lost a niche of her ear soon after I brought her home and according to the vet, she must have burned her ear on something she passed under. She also cannot stand to be restrained or picked up even after this long but will sit next to us and lovingly pad on our leg. I cannot imagine the terrorizing life she lived to develop these long term scars but I am more than thankful to Tears for her rescue and I wish I could afford to take in so many more!! I hope you are able to continue your heartwarming rescues and bring the love and joy to more families like mine. Sincerely, Thank You!

Purrsilla After
Purrsilla After

At the end of December last year our family was very fortunate to adopt one of the Blount County Massacre Kitties. We adopted a female and named her Purrsilla. Purrsilla did not have to be shaved like so many of the other cats, however, she was very skinny and her hair was sickly like her body. Purrsilla suffered from ringworm in the beginning and numerous eye infections. It did not take long before she began to come out of her wounded shell. She is a real loving lap cat. She was easy to litter train and never has had an accident. We kept her in the laundry room for the first few weeks and then slowly opened up the house one room at time. Purrsilla is absolutely perfect in everyway. We have almost had her for one year and I thought you might like to see the progress. She has come a long way in a short time. Purrsilla is living proof that your organization does great and wonderful work and we are proud to have one of your rescues in our family.

I would like to share with you the progress of the cat that I adopted in January.
He went from wild cat to lap cat in about ten days.

UPDATE ON MONTY-
I thought Id let you know that Molly (formerly Monty), is doing FABULOUS and the kids just love her. She sleeps on the floor next to my side of the bed every night, and is just as loving as you said she would be. She gets along well with our other new adoptee, a Shepherd mix from Shelby county humane society, and is just the perfect dog for us. Please pass this along to the rest of the TEARS staff. We just love her!
Have a great day- Jackie Parker

We adopted Brownie in February 2005. He is the love of our lives.
Brownie was rescued from an elderly lady in Arab, AL who was living in a condemned house with, I think about 3 dozen other dogs and several kittens. We quickly learned that Brownie had "issues". Our vet said he might overcome them and he might not. Well he hasn't. He is wonderful alone with Mom and Dad but is afraid of everything and everyone that moves. He does not like company and will not come willingly back into the house after someone has left. When we have tried to take him out in public, he cowers, shakes and pees. Our vets office is so sweet with him. On our last vet visit she said how lucky Brownie was to find us. But we feel lucky to have found him. We may never know what some of these dogs have been through. But we can offer them a safe and loving forever home.
Thanks Tears for helping us find such a special dog.

Even as many animals that we rescue, some in just horrible conditions, every once in a while we receive a dog or cat that you just can't help but cry for them. Dorsey was such a dog for me. That look, forsaken, never loved, never having anyone to care about you look. There is no way we could ever imagine what kind of life this poor animal had endured. Telling him that all was going to be ok and we would find him a wonderful forever home seemed like a big fat story that I was telling him. How could we ever?...We started treatment and faithfully administered it with love and kindness. He was always very docile and sweet. As weeks went by he was showing signs of improvement, in his skin condition and even the look of hope. Then one day we received a call from a very nice lady, stating she and her son would like to adopt a dog. After looking at several, the boy found Dorsey and I guess fell in love immediately. Mom asked him, are you sure this is the one for us?
There are many better looking dogs here. The boy replied, "I don't care what he looks like Mom. I really want him." He made a wonderful choice. Dorsey is turning into a beautiful eye catching dog. Of course we always knew he was beautifulÑhe has a wonderful soul.

Thank you Carole for having that very wonderful son.

I'm sorry I haven't sent an update on Munchkin in a long while. I promised you some pictures to show to the folks at TEARS when his fur was all grown out. As you can see, he's nothing like the emaciated, sick, half-feral cat I adopted from you back in January. He's a happy lively little guy and fully as cute and as much of a ham as he looks like in the pictures. I sometimes call him the "King of Cute". My mother thinks he looks like a show cat. It took 3 months to bring him around, but now he makes sure he gets plenty of attention. He's not a lap kitty (except for when he's trying to steal my dinner), but expects to be picked up and cuddled several times a day, have his "Munchkin Man" song sung to him, and receive belly rubs. He plays for hours on end with his balls with bells in them (which he has scattered all over the house), loves to chase the other cats, and also enjoys chasing the laser when I bring out the laser pointer. A person who was unacquainted with his background would probably never dream that he came from a kitty mill type of situation, but presume that he had been spoiled since kittenhood. It shows what a difference love and care can make for even animals that got off to a horrific start.

By the way, this month's theme for the library displays and library newsletter was "pet care and adoption". We used one of the pictures from your website of the seized Blount Co. cats and these recent pictures of Munchkin to illustrate the before and after of an abused animal and one that has been adopted into a loving home and received proper care. So he's our "poster boy" for animal welfare.

Zora (formerly Cayenne) fits in very well with our household. She likes to get on the bed with us in the morning and get petted before we start our day.
It's obvious to me that she received great care at TEARS; she wouldn't be such a well-adjusted and happy dog if she hadn't.

Thanks again, and good luck with the rest of the TEARS animals,
Caitlin

Pogo (formerly Maggie) is doing great! She loves to play with her toys and run around the house 90mph. Mom says she is a cutie.

Thanks again for all ya'll do,
David and Melanna Wray

I wasn't told much about her past but Belle was getting older as a puppy (over six months) but once we got her home we saw she had plenty of energetic puppy qualities. Her sister had already been adopted and the Tears personnel said she had not had any recent inquiries. She seemed quite shy at first but after a few days she let her true personality out. Rippin' and runnin' usually, Belle only takes a break for a belly rub from her people.

Pictured here is Amy Reno with her two newly adopted rescue cats!!

Hollywood patiently waited over 2 years for his home!! Well worth the wait he tells us. Hollywood is now called Angel & he is spoiled rotten!!

Booker is one of over 200 Persians confiscated from horrible conditions. He found his second chance with the Stewart family who opened their hearts and home to him.

Once a sickly, tiny puppy Mayhem is now healthy and happy in her forever home!!

Adopted as a young puppy, ZuZu has filled her forever home with joy & laughter.

Trinket (now Celie) is fitting in nicely in her new home

T.J. is doing great! He is such a playful, full of personality kitty. He often carries his toys in his mouth wanting to play and loves playing with the two other kittens.

Combo (now Rambo) is gentle as a lamb and is very considerate of our other dogs. He is a dandy companion and likes watching TV with us and being petted - a lot. He has not figured out how to use the dog door, as yet, but we are working on it. He is a treasure and we are lucky to have him.

Chaos (now Sarge) enjoys surfing the net.

Both of these kitties were from the Persian rescue. They look quite content, huh?
